Is Aloe Vera Good For Your Face?
Aloe vera is well known for its use in skincare, and it can be used both on the face and on other areas of the body. The gel of the aloe plant is very rich in a number of beneficial substances, including vitamins, minerals, enzymes and more, which give it a number of useful properties.
Some Aloe Vera Benefits For The Face
It has an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect, making it good for use on rashes and sunburn, and also for acne and pimples caused by bacteria, as well as on minor cuts and grazes. The gel is also astringent, so can be helpful if you have oily skin. On the other hand, if your skin is very dry already, you might find that the aloe vera dries it out too much – if this is the case, the gel should be combined with a stronger moisturising agent (I like coconut oil).
Some people also promote the use of aloe vera for wrinkles, and claim it has anti-aging properties. This makes some sense when you consider that the skin does absorb many of the substances that it comes into contact with, as aloe gel is certainly very rich in the kinds of nutrients that are artificially added to many high-end skin care creams.
You can also take aloe vera internally, in the form of capsules or juice. These are both good ways to get a nutrient boost, which can in turn help your skin look better from the inside out.

You have the choice of using aloe vera gel in its pure form, or using a cream (or lotion etc.) that contains aloe vera. If you opt for the gel, you can get it fresh from the plant if you grow your own, or buy it from health stores and other places that sell natural toiletries and cosmetics. Look for those which have a minimum of artificial ingredients added – pure aloe vera gel is best.
If you opt for a cream or other product containing aloe vera, make sure that the aloe is the main ingredient and is present in sufficient concentration to actually make a difference. Whether you use a cream or pure gel, it should be left to be fully absorbed by the skin – so using it just before you go to bed is a good idea.
For best results, use aloe vera regularly – although it can produce some fast results (such as when it’s used to soothe a rash or cut for example), when using it for things like pimples or other more chronic problems, it might take regular application for a few weeks to start to see significant changes.
Cautions When Using Aloe Vera On The Face
While aloe vera is safe to use on the face for most people, like any other substance (whether natural or synthetic), it may cause a negative reaction in some people. If you haven’t used it before, it’s best to do a patch test on a small area of skin and leave it for at least 24 hours before using it on the rest of your face. You should also avoid contact with the eyes.
