Why I Like Abraham

I first discovered the Abraham material about two years ago (shortly after joining WBR in fact), and although I was already familiar with law of attraction and much of the other things they talk about, I was totally blown away by the way in which they present it, and by the sheer ‘feel good factor’ that characterises their material.

Abraham, for those of you unfamiliar with them, is a group of non-physical consciousnesses that speak through Esther Hicks. Yes, it’s channelled info, although they don’t use the word ‘channelled’ themselves. Now if you’re sceptical about channelling, that doesn’t mean Abraham’s information won’t be of use to you – as I see it, it doesn’t matter where good ideas come from, if they work! So if you have a problem with the notion of non-physical consciousnesses talking through a physical person, please don’t let that put you off exploring the Abraham material further, if you like what they have to say.

Esther and her husband Jerry first made contact with Abraham back in 1985, and since then have put out a huge range of audio recordings, books and other written material. They spend most of their time travelling around the US conducting very popular seminars at which people can ask Abraham questions. These highly entertaining and insightful sessions are made available as CDs and downloads (and sometimes DVDs), and can be purchased through the Abraham-Hicks website.

The thing I like so much about Abraham is that, unlike so many ‘new age’ writers/speakers they’re extremely life-affirming and completely free of the usual dogma and BS. Maybe it’s because their non-physical perspective frees them from all the human belief systems and limitations that most human writers carry, but you won’t hear any of the usual drivel about how we’re here to ‘learn lessons’, or how you can only succeed after lots of suffering and struggle, or how karma or past lives mean you have to pay some kind of price, or that wealth is somehow ‘unspiritual’ etc etc.

Instead, Abraham’s message is simple: we create our experience in accordance with our thoughts and feelings, and the purpose of life is joy. We are 100% free at all times, and we grow not through suffering or learning harsh lessons, but through seeking our bliss. And we can have whatever we want – there’s no higher power that sits in judgment and decides to delay or deny our desire. It’s all down to us. We also have the benefit of an extremely powerful inner guidance system in the form of our emotions. If we follow the path of what feels good, we won’t go wrong.

Abraham’s philosophy is highly individualistic and stresses individual freedom and empowerment, as well as being extremely upbeat and non-judgmental. I think I like them because they confirm what I always knew to be true, even while I spend years wading through countless metaphysical and self-help books that simply rehashed the same tired old cliches. So if you’re feeling at all ‘burned out’ with the usual ‘spiritual’ fare, and still haven’t got the results in your life that you’re looking for, Abraham may provide a refreshing surprise.

The articles on this site focus primarily on my interpretations of Abraham’s teachings. They represent my opinions, and are not endorsed by Abraham-Hicks.
