Keeping The Faith

When working with law of attraction to manifest money (or anything else), it’s necessary in the beginning to make a large leap of faith. You might read about manifesting, accept intellectually that it sounds plausible, and be sincerely willing to give it a go, but if you’re new to deliberate manifesting, you may not have any personal evidence that it works. And although law of attraction is at work all the time, whether you believe in it or not, if you have doubts about whether it’ll work for you, you’ll just attract more evidence to support those doubts. So until you’ve got a few successful deliberate manifestations under your belt, you’ll need some strong faith that this not only works, but that it is working for you, right now, to create the results you desire.

This need for faith can present a stumbling block, especially to those who – like me – are not religious and are unused to believing in some kind of invisible force or power. And lack of faith in law of attraction itself is not the only problem; many people also lack faith in themselves, perhaps as a result of past ‘failures’ to acheive their goals. They might believe that law of attraction works, but not feel confident that they can make it work for them, personally.

Fortunately, nothing is more convincing than personal experience, so after your first few desires have manifested, the need for faith lessens dramatically – and ironically, you’ll probably now have much more faith in the process, having experienced success at first hand! Of course the amount of ‘evidence’ needed to convince someone that this stuff really works will vary from person to person, and many people will write off small – or even large – manfestations as mere ‘coincidences’ – even though these don’t exist! But open minded people who work consistently with law of attraction usually come to really know (on a feeling level as well as an intellectual level) that it works, and can be relied on.

If you’re not quite at that point yet, here are some tips to boost your faith in the process for long enough to manifest some initial results:

  • Saturate yourself in the subject – read as much as you can about law of attraction, and gain a thorough theoretical understanding of how it works. Try to include some cutting-edge material on quantum physics and consciousness – there are many excellent books in this area that are aimed at lay readers. If you’re the type of person who is a bit sceptical, this type of material may help to reassure you that the influence of consciousness on the physical world is real, and not just ‘new age woo woo’.
  • Start small – it’s as easy to manifest a large desire as a tiny one, but most people don’t believe that. In our action-oriented society, the ‘big stuff’ generally takes much more time and effort to bring about, so most of us have grown up thinking that the creation of anything of significance must necessarily involve a lot of time and effort. In time you’ll move beyond that kind of limited thinking, but to begin with don’t make it hard on yourself – pick something small that is well within the bounds of believability for you, and after a few manifestations of this type you’ll know it works, and have more confidence in your ability to attract larger desires with ease.
  • Look for success stories – learn about how others have made law of attraction work for them. There are inspiring stories everywhere – in books, online, even in day to day life.
  • Keep your word to yourself – in his excellent metaphysical books, Stuart Wilde often talks about the concept of ‘my word is law’. This basically means – if you say you’re going to do something, do it, and don’t let yourself down under any circumstances. If you’re not sure about your ability to follow through on some plan or goal, then don’t tell yourself that you’re making a commitment to do it. If you keep breaking your word to yourself, you’ll undermine your belief in your own ability to control your life and get the results you desire. Whereas if you have established a solid history of following thorough with your action-oriented endeavours, your self-image is probably that of someone who gets results, and you’re more like to apply this positive expectation of success to your law of attraction-based work too.
  • Keep quiet – don’t talk about this with others. Most people are pretty clueless when it comes to law of attraction, and are likely to react negatively. You don’t need their doubts to add to your own! Plus there is a power in keeping silent – you allow the energy to build, and don’t disperse it through idle chatter, thus making your personal magnetism to your desire more intense.
  • Keep track of your successes – don’t be tempted to write off small manifestations or synchronicities as ‘coincidence’. There’s no such thing as coincidence, and even the little things, like thinking of someone just before they phone you, or finding coins on the street, are examples of law of attraction at work. Try keeping a list of every manifestation and unusual synchronicity you experience, so you won’t forget about them, and then if you experience doubt, read over it to remind yourself that you don’t need to wait for the big stuff to show up before you can feel successful – you’re a successful manifestor already!
  • Stay focused on what you want – in Abraham’s terms, if you keep looking at ‘what is’, you’ll just get more of it. It can be a bit challenging when you look around and don’t see any evidence that this is working – the natural reaction for most people is to focus on that lack of evidence and assume that nothing’s happening. But like a seed growing in the dark underground, much is happening on an invisible energy level in preparation for your manifestation. Keep your focus on your desire, and don’t sabotage it by giving attention to the temporary lack of it.
  • Let it take as long as it takes – in a resistance-free person, desires generally manifest very quickly, but for most who are just getting started with deliberate manifesting, things take a bit longer. It usually takes time to release the resistance you carry to your desire, and while it’s understandable that you want to see results quickly, the imposition of time limits is an additional pressure that you don’t need in the beginning. Try to trust that it’ll happen at the perfect time, and – as mentioned above – focus on what you want, not the lack of it. Taking score of where you are too often is a sure way to make it take even longer!
  • Visualise your desire daily – really capture the sensation of how you’ll feel when your desire is manifested, and try to keep that feeling with you. By doing this you are, in Abraham’s words, ‘closing the vibrational gap’ between where you are and where you want to be. When your desire feels totally familiar to you, less faith is needed, because it won’t feel so alien – eventually a sense of inevitability develops and you just know – without having to try to convince yourself – that manifestation is guaranteed.

Above all – keep at it! A time comes when you make a kind of mental shift, and just know on a very deep level that this really works. When that happens, you’ll have the wonderful sense of freedom and security that comes with knowing that you and only you are the creator of your experience. That feeling is worth the initial effort it may take to keep the faith in law of attraction and in your own ability to utilise it during those early weeks or months!
