Want To Learn To Lucid Dream? Binaural Beats Can Help
Would you like to be able to have literally any experience you desire? Maybe you’d like to be able to fly, or travel in outer space, or visit every country in the world without the hassle of making long physical journeys. Or maybe you have a recurrent nightmare and want to be able to stop it in its tracks? Well you can – if you learn to have lucid dreams.
Lucid dreaming occurs when you become conscious during your dreams, and then begin directing the action. In a fully lucid dream, you can basically create any scenario you want – you’re in control. Most people would agree that this sounds like fun, so why aren’t lucid dreams more common?
The problem is that for most people, lucid dreaming requires a high degree of focus and mental control. There are two basic routes to having a lucid dream: firstly, going to sleep as normal, and then ‘waking up’ in a dream; and secondly, staying conscious as you drift off to sleep, so you make a smooth transition from the waking to the dreaming state. In both cases, you need to be able to remain ‘awake’ while the body is asleep, and to maintain that state of awakeness while dreaming; you’re basically asking your brain to function in a new way, which is a difficult feat if you’re not used to it.
In terms of brain function, in normal waking consciousness, your brain predominantly produces beta waves (13 Hz or higher). If you’re relaxed (as when daydreaming for example), you may dip down into the alpha state (8 – 12 Hz). However, lucid dreaming involves the production of theta brainwaves, which are much slower in frequency (4 – 8 Hz). Normally we pass into the theta state as we fall asleep and begin to dream – and at that point we lose waking consciousness.
In order to stay awake while in the theta state, practice is required. People who are skilled meditators can often do it, but have usually needed years of training and practice to get to that point. Fortunately however, you don’t need to spend years learning to meditate any more, thanks to brainwave entrainment technology such as binaural beats.
What Are Binaural Beats?
Brainwave entrainment involves exposing the brain to repetitive sound pulses of specific frequencies. Thanks to the so-called ‘frequency following response’, the brain has a natural tendency to match its own brainwave output to the frequency of the sounds it is hearing. So if you listen to a recording that features sounds in the 4 – 8 Hz range, your brain will be guided into the theta brain state – which is just where you need to be to have a lucid dream.
Binaural beats are the most popular and widely known type of brainwave entrainment technology. They involve listening to sounds of two different frequencies (one in each ear). The brain itself then generates a pulse (or beat) that repeats at a rate equal to the frequency difference between the pitches of the two tones. For example, if you hear a 320Hz tone in your left ear, and a 325Hz tone in your right, the brain will produce a 5Hz beat, and entrain to that.
Other types of brainwave entrainment include monaural beats and isochronic tones – these are produced differently, but have a similar effect to binaural beats.
Using Binaural Beats For Lucid Dreaming
So, you need to enter the theta brainwave state and remain there while conscious in order to have a lucid dream. And binaural beats can help by guiding your brain into this state. If you decide to use a binaural recording to learn lucid dreaming, it’s important to listen regularly, so your mind learns what to expect. Not everyone will have a lucid dream on their first attempt, but like anything, it gets easier with practice. Just be sure to be consistent, and you’ll be living a whole new life in your dreams!
To get the best results, make sure you use a high quality recording that’s designed for the purpose of lucid dreaming, such as the ‘Lucid Dreaming’ track from The Unexplainable Store. This is available in both MP3 and CD format, as well as in a choice of binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic tones. They’ve got some free tracks too, so make sure you check them out!
